"The energies of our system will decay; the glory of the sun will be dimmed, and the earth, tideless and inert, will no longer tolerate the race which has for a moment disturbed its solitude. Man will go down into the pit, and all his thoughts will perish. The uneasy consciousness, which in this obscure corner has for a brief space broken the contented silence of the universe, will be at rest. Matter will know itself no longer. 'Imperishable monuments' and 'immortal deeds,' death itself, and love stronger than death, will be as though they had never been."

I haven't bought it yet... I *Might* get it for Christmas!tantei okuoku wrote: Did anyone else get the dvds? because I love my blu-ray release of the series

Sherlock Holmes - When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?
Conan Edogawa - A Detective who uses his deductive powers to corner a suspect and then does nothing to stop that suspect from committing suicide...is NO better than a murderer himself.

Re: Are you guys watching Sherlock?
I just watched the first episode and it is Awesome. I didn't like the problem that much, to be honest, not that I figured it out into the first minute or anything but it didn't feel all that original. But I must give ALL THUMBS AND TOES UP for a real thriller aspect in the writing and direction (particularly in the confrontation scene - I watched every single muscle twitch in Holmes' face O_O) , and the spot-on portrayal of the characters!! I didn't think the actor who played Holmes would be so convincing, but I think he portrays the character very very well although at first sight he doesn't look like a Sherlock Holmes.
As to Holmes' character, yes I think it's true that he shows different eccentricities each time and in a way it does make the character a lot more three-dimensional. Unintended genius?
But as a whole I think he's neither messy, or very into cleanliness... I think he's very particular about things that he cares about, hence the meticulous indexes that he keeps (if I'm remembering the stories correctly) and the methodical approach he takes to deduction. But for other things that are not important, he may let them fall into chaos, so to speak.
But actually it's not surprising that we can't categorise him into any one personality, because a lot of us are like that? I don't organise my things very cleanly but there IS a system that I follow inside my head, and things that are more important to me are naturally better kept and organised.
Anyway this topic has been very educational and I will be checking out Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes too
(if I can get my hands on the series...)

Reviving this. Watched it a while ago and loved it, haven't read many of the books or seen any other adoptions except some movie that aired a couple of years ago, didn't like that one much though
I really do hope that more episodes will air soon.

Re: Are you guys watching Sherlock?
I watched some episodes of Sherlock, for some aired here in Germany, but they stopped after Episode 4 I think.
Personally I love how they worked the relationship out between Holmes and Watson, but what I didn't like was the dofference in age you seemed to have...somehow Watson looks so much older than Holmes.
As far as I've seen it they also left a bit out on Holmes' drug-thing. I mean in the books he frequently takes drugs in times without cases. I don't know which cases are still to come in the series (in the episodes I haven't seen yet), but there are, in fact, some cases, which Holmes could not solve and the client still died.
Plus in the books you get more the feeling that Watson is indeed a friend and helps him with the cases...somehow he feels more like someone constantly walking behind Holmes and watching his doings, but not like an active assistant, you know? In the books it feels very much like Holmes truly needs him.
Furthermore in the episode with this asian circus he could've just kicked the chair the woman was sitting on to get her out of dange since no hint was shown, no evidence given that the chair had been nailed or glued to the spot. And while fighting he got close enough to do something - even while fighting.
