Now that I think about it, I've never seen a part in the game where Luke or Layton got physically hurt.

That's true, now that I think about it.

Spoiler:

Neither of them got hurt by the ferris wheel or collapsing tower in the first game, Layton didn't get hurt in his duel with Anton in the second and everyone got out of the castle alright, and in the third neither of them got hurt at all by Clive's antics, though Clive himself got whacked by a pipe and, y'know, he probably killed thousands of people during his rampage. Though in the second game, Luke and Layton did get knocked out by Anton... or was that gas? I forget.

Yeah, although I do remember being distinctly freaked out by that. Probably because the first two games were so light on actual physical damage, that made the third game more shocking; both the flashback to the main character being beaten to within an inch of his life in a back alley, and the whole part where Clive's mecha-thing is seen crushing into dust dozens of houses with the lights on inside. People were inside at the time. And though it wasn't shown too explicitly, the scene where Dmitri found Claire's body was also pretty... the whole game frequently made me go "Whoa O_O". Definitely the serious game.

Not that I didn't utterly love it, even more every time it shocked me and especially when it made me cry. "I DON'T WANT TO SAY GOODBYE AGAIN! I CAN'T! I WON'T!" Oh, geez... just remembering is making me tear up

Also, is that Layton's college friend that the early trailers suggested was dead but unsurprisingly totally isn't? Nice hair.

Am I allowed to bump this because I played The Mask of Miracles at the London MCM?

Because I did. And it was SO perfect. Teenage!Layton was adorable, with his "but Randall, you know I'm not interested in archaeology" and dat hair, and the puzzles were good and the 3D looked way better than I expected to. Plus the sadness in every time Randall appears in the flashbacks because HE IS DEEEEAAAADDD AND LAYTON BLAMES HIMSELF D:

Though if Randall-whose-body-was-never-found isn't actually alive and wearing the Mask of Chaos, I'll eat my top hat.

My guess on how people are being turned to stone so far: "It's simple, Luke! The Masked Gentleman simply kidnapped a number of townsfolk in the smoke and replaced them with statues carved in their exact likeness! "

It's no more ridiculous than a giant sea otter fighting a drill.
