Agatha Christie's Poirot - Final Season Now Airing!

Post by Magical Mystery »

This weekend (specifically June 9th) the 13th and final season of Agatha Christie's Poirot began airing in the UK. It aired on ITV.

David Suchet returns to his role as Hercule Poirot to complete the series - giving us the most complete collection of TV episodes of the Belgian sleuth.

The episodes that that come with this series are:

Elephants Can Remember
The Big Four
The Labours of Hercules
Dead Man's Folly
Curtain

All the episodes listed will be movie-length adaptions of the books.

In the story that aired this weekend Zoë Wanamaker also returned to play the part of Ariadne Oliver (with another appearance to come in Dead Man's Folly).

Elephants Can Remember may have aired this weekend, but as of now we don't know when the next episodes will air.

Next week ITV airs an episode of A Caribbean Mystery - the first of the new season of Agatha Christie's Marple.

The following weekend will air another episode of Agatha Christie's Marple - this time Greenshaw's Folly.

Presumably Agatha Christie's Marple will end it's' 3 episode season with Endless Night the following week, but that is unconfirmed.

Further assuming that the next episode of Agatha Christie's Poirot will return the following week to air The Big Four, but that is unconfirmed and guessing on my part since no information is given in the ITV schedule or press releases.

Any further episode listings would be just conjecture.

I can understand that. I have many of the books myself.

With a book your imagination can make the characters come alive in your mind, but when you see a TV episode or movie of it - it's not the same.

When you read the book you create one idea of the characters and often when you see the screen version (TV or Movie screen) it doesn't match up to your imagination.

Also, you have the changes to the stories that they make when you put it on the screen. You have to compress the book or story into a certain time slot and a lot of the story and nuances are lost. No matter how faithful to book you are something will be lost.

I've had a lot of my favorite series end over the years, but this will no doubt be one of the most bittersweet. Despite some misgivings in the later years, it's still an utter delight to watch David Suchet work his Poirot magic. Additionally, seeing Curtain in filmed form (and with Hastings actually back!), it's going to be really bittersweet indeed.

I'll be watching the first of the series tomorrow I hope.

I've found out more information about this series.

Since we had the initial release for the season (Elephants can Remember) no other episodes in this season have come out. However, the final episode (Curtain) is scheduled to air on Jan 12, 2014.

This tells me (I guessing) that they plan to "pepper" the season throughout the year instead of doing all as one regular season OR they could air them all at the end of the year finishing in January. Either way we'll reach the end in January of 2014.

One way or another I'll let you know what is happening with the schedule and give updates as needed.

Cheers! :)

At last!

ITV has finally announced the release of a new episode of "Agatha Christie's Poirot"

The next episode will air Wed. the 23rd of October. The episode in question is The Big Four which is based on the 1927 novel of the same name. The Big Four will be a feature-length episode (approx. 1 1/2 to 2 hours) as is the rest of the season.

There is an unconfirmed report that the next stories will come out monthly with November's episode as Dead Man's Folly, and December's being The Labours of Hercules in December, and the final episode of the show airing in January with Curtain which is moved back a week or so than previously reported. The new (unconfirmed) date for Curtain is now Jan 3, 2014.

Happy viewing! :)

I'm rewatching some of the best cases and Murder on the Orient Express is just fantastically directed and acted. The case after it just pales in comparison.
Anyway I'm interested in seeing how this "On June 16 2015, 20th Century Fox hired director Kenneth Branagh to direct the next film adaptation of the Agatha Christie (Orient Express) story" will compare.

I just remembered the movie version with this guy as Poirot...

If only I didn't remember so well all the murderers from the books... If only there was a possibility to erase that part of the memory, then it would be a so much greater experience to watch those films!
