Unsolved Mysteries Returns To TV Tomorrow!

Post by Jd- »

You heard it right, my friends. Those with Spike TV can view the greatest mystery show of all time once again starting tomorrow at 5:00 PM EST. It will run every week-day from 5:00~7:00, two episodes a day.

The show is under a new format, with updates to old cases and a new host, Dennis Farina. Robert Stack died a few years ago (very tragic loss indeed :'( ), but I have faith that Dennis will do well. Instead of four cases per episode, they've upped it to five by condensing a bit of the reenactments and picking up the pace some. More Unsolved is more Unsolved.

For those that are not familiar: Unsolved Mysteries was a TV series in the U.S. that aired from 1987 to 2002 on NBC, CBS, and Lifetime. Some 553 episodes of the show were produced and aired over that long timespan, which is impressive in its own right.

The show is basically a series of reenactments and interviews with those closest to the cases, which range from murders, disappearances, robberies, etc. all the way to BS like psychics, UFOs, Bigfoot, and other negligible bits. Of course, there's a big audience for the latter, and while I believe it all to be complete and utter bullshit, it at least kept the show on air for a long time.

While it was airing, Unsolved led to the closing of many, many cases that were featured on it, as viewers were able to call in with tips and leads on the cases. It was particularly thrilling to see a re-airing of an episode with the "UDPATE" segments appended.

Sorry for the rambling, I'm just excited... But also busy with Movie 12, and some college work. Anyone who can watch it tomorrow, you should!

UPDATE

(Tee-hee, always wanted to do that)

Lots of info up on the new official site, www.unsolved.com.

Loved that show!! Great News Indeed, didn't know the host had died, I wonder if the new one will be able to fill in his shoes

I was hoping for all/mostly new cases, but it sure looks like it will be all/mostly a rehash of old episodes/cases.  Personally, it would be hard for me to watch something that is just a repackaging of the reruns even if there are updates to said cases.

Yeah, it's entirely rehashed as of now. Cosgrove/Meuer said that they would consider doing new episodes later on. I mean, I would consider myself a pretty fervent fan of the show myself... And I haven't seen even half of the segments. It'll be nice to see them all revisited, as well as see additional updates and footage to the cases.

We just finished watching the new "Unsolved Mysteries".  Would you like to watch it again tomorrow, Conan?

Seriously though, I think I will pass on this refurb until they create new content.

Zing!

Just remember for those interested: It airs every week day at 5 & 6 PM EST on Spike.

I've got class in a bit, so I'll keep this quick. I thought Dennis Farina did a really wonderful job, but it's not possible for anyone to replace Robert Stack. The new format is great, overall, and allows for a much easier format for modern TV.

All in all, very good still, and definitely worth watching. The production team announced they would be producing 157 episodes total with Farina (with the old material, that is), and then would consider new segments.
